On August 10, 2003, around 2:00 PM, tragedy struck the Shilts family.  Dick's only brother, Wally, was killed instantly in a rare accident while enjoying the sport of power paragliding at a "fly-in" near Perrysburg, Ohio.  Wally's picture, ironically, had appeared in an article in the Toledo Blade on the morning of his untimely death.  Click on the link below to view articles that appeared in the Blade on August 10 and August 11.

Friends and family came from all over to pay their respects to Wally.  The Memorial Service was held at 8:00 PM on August 13, 2003, at the Barnes Funeral Home in New Paris, Ohio.  The pictures shown here are of Wally and by Wally.  May they serve as a memorial of Wally's passion for power paragliding.
